Welcome to the Bennett Place Chapter of the UDC.

The chapter was organized on December 4, 1956.    

There were 27 charter members of the chapter.

It was named in honor of The Bennett Farm where General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered to General W.T. Sherman on April 26, 1865 during the War Between the States.

145th Anniversary Surrender Commemoration
This commemorative event marks the largest surrender of the American Civil War, which helped reunify the United States. Visit Bennett Place where the generals convened to sign papers, which made them prominent figures in history.  Living History programs and lectures will be held throughout the weekend. Event is 10am-4pm, Saturday and 10am-3pm, Sunday.  Admission is FREE and donations graciously accepted.  For more information, call 919-383-4345.

Congratulations to Mr. Jake E. Thornton of Elizabeth City, NC.  He is the 2009 selection for the I. Beverly Lake Scholarship.  Jake will be attending Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC.
